“Dear Brethren,
With great joy and a humble heart we offer our thanks to you for the expression of generosity in your willingness to help us get acquainted and settled in. Much to our surprise was the outpouring of contributions made to the money tree. These and much more have overflowed from your kind and generous hearts. May God continue to richly bless you as He has our family through you!

-Will Love and Appreciation,

Kris, Lena, Kaden and Kelly
We STILL need each member to check the “condensed directory” on the rectangular table in the foyer. See if your information is correct, and if not then correct it and afterward place a check mark next to your name to indicate you have checked your info. This will be the last Sunday to allow for corrections. After this if the information is incorrect you will have no one to blame but yourself. Thanks.

Where are the Nine?
By Kris Groda
Luke 17:11-19
And it came to pass, as he went to Jerusalem, that he passed through the midst of Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered into a certain village, there met him ten men that were lepers, which stood afar off: And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Master, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole.
Like the parable of the Good Samaritan, and the account the woman of Samaria in John 4, this observation illustrates the readiness of the outcast Samaritan to detect the significance of Jesus’ mission than the Jews. Remember John 1:11-12? Traditionally, ‘the Jews had no dealings with the Samaritans.’ (Jn. 4:9). Of all the positive examples illustrating Godly Samaritans, a rather surprising circumstance is recorded in Luke 9:53-54, a time when the Samaritans did not receive Jesus “because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.”
But leprosy, what is it? Leprosy is a skin disease that starts out with an eruption of white, rough scaly patches, and as it advances to sub levels of the skin, it spreads and you decay. It was and is a very debilitating disease. Under the Law of Moses having the plague of leprosy rendered you unclean and required you to be quarantined for 7-14 days. If it was not cleared up you were to dwell outside the camp (Lev. 13:45-46; Num. 5:2-4). Additionally, a person with leprosy had to wear mourning garments, rend his clothes, leave the hair of his head disordered, keep the beard uncovered, and cry “Unclean, Unclean!” that everyone might avoid him for fear of being defiled (Lev. 13:45; Lam 4:15).
Now, these guys were desperate. Can you imagine contracting leprosy and having to leave the company of your spouse and children? You wouldn’t be able to go to work or have association with close friends. These guys saw Jesus from a distance and cried aloud for mercy. They knew Jesus was merciful and could miraculously heal them. But to be official, according to the law, they would have to show themselves to the priest – a process that took time. In the Old Testament, the priest would go outside the camp and inspect the leper and upon observing that they were cured, would admit them into the congregation, giving them a testimony or certificate of their cure (Lev. 13:1-6; 14:1-32). In addition, they were to offer offerings to the Lord in appreciation of the cleansing (Lev. 14:10-32).
Ten were cleansed, one returned to give glory to God – that is, to give thanks. Jesus makes a point to illustrate the one person who returned to give thanks and glory to God. How many times have you rendered benevolence to someone who later gave you a thank you note? (I’d say it doesn’t happen often.) The one person who came back to give thanks just happened to be a Samaritan. What was the point? Could it be that the people of God can sometimes take the blessings of God for granted? Could it also be that people who are truly grateful and experience what it is like to be overwhelmed with joy and gratitude in the day of salvation are those who have just discovered the Lord? May we, as God’s children value the spiritual blessings we have in Christ (Eph 1:3) and strive to be truly thankful (Col 3:15).
Make your plans now to be in class Sunday morning at 9:00 am
