Bud Roach had a stroke last Tuesday. He was taken to the emergency room at TRMC, but was later dismissed and sent back home.
Tina Brown had gallbladder surgery last week but is now back at home.
Grady Duncan, while using his chainsaw to remove a tree limb, cut his left forearm so bad he wrapped the arm in a cloth, bleeding profusely, and drove himself to the emergency room at TRMC where numerous stitches (he cannot recall how many) were taken and he was released back home.
R. C. Grissom is still in the hospital in Tyler with his back. He will be there several more days.
God’s Promise
God has not promised skies always blue,
Flower strewn pathway all our lives thru’,
God has not promised sun without rain,
Peace without sorrow, joy without pain.
But God has promised strength as our day,
Rest when we labor, light on the way,
Grace for our trials, help from above,
Unfading kindness, undying love.
Tho’ we have mingled sunshine and rain,
Clouds decked with rainbows, joy mixed with pain,
Let us still trust his mercies right on
And sing His praises all the say long.
A Sad Choice

On the table side by side;
The Holy Bible and the TV guide.
One is well worn but cherished with pride
(Not the Bible but the TV guide).
One is used daily to help folks decide,
As pages are turned, what shall they see?
Oh, what does it matter, turn on the TV.
So they open the book in which they confide.
No, it isn’t the bible, it’s the TV guide.
The Word of God is seldom read
(Maybe a verse as they fall into bed).
Exhausted and sleepy and tired as can be,
Not from reading the Bible, but from watching TV.
So then back to the table, side by side,
Is the Holy Bible and the TV guide.
Nor time for prayer, no time for the Word;
The plan of salvation is seldom heard.
Forgiveness of sin so full and free
Is found in the bible, not on TV!
How true this is in a lot of our lives. Our focus is no longer on God and His word but on the things of the world. How far will this take us? Will it take us anywhere other than to our couch or comfortable chair? Really think about these questions. How far will watching TV for hours get you? On the other hand, how far will reading the bible for the same amount of time you watch TV get you?
Church, our children are victims of this horror. We are fighting an uphill battle with the world and we are losing the battle. We fight and fight against it out on the battlefield and yet we don’t succeed. Why is it that we keep losing these battles? Are we not well trained or prepared to fight the enemy? I think I would agree. We are not getting the proper training to fight the enemy the way the enemy should be fought. We are going out to battle with little training if any training at all. What else can you expect but to be defeated? Church, we need training! We need strong spiritual training from God, but the only way we will get any training from god is if we go to God for that training. When was the last time you turned off your TV to read or study the Bible a little more than you usually do?
“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” Ephesians 6:12.
Will you be prepared for these battles? Will your children be prepared for these battles? I pray that you are doing your best to prepare for these struggles to come. May god bless you!
