“We just barely got started on our Wednesday evening Bible Study in our Adult Auditorium Class this past Wednesday evening. The Theme of our new study is: ‘How We Got The Bible and Can We Trust It?’ (Is it really the Holy and Inspired Word of God?) in this study we will consider the following major points: Why We Believe in God, Why we Want to Believe the Bible is God’s Word, Is the Bible Inspired of God and how can we prove it?, Which books belong in the Bible?, Is the Biblical text reliable?, The Bible translation controversy, How to study the Bible effectively.
If you have not been attending on Wednesday night, won’t you consider coming for this challenging and interesting study? Hopefully your faith will be strengthened that the Bible really is the All Authoritative Word of God!!!
‘Twas a Sheep
Author Unknown
“Twas a sheep, not a lamb, that went astray
In the parable Jesus told;
“twas a grown-up sheep that wandered away
From the ninety and nine in the fold.
And out on the hilltops and out in the cold,
“Twas a sheep that the Good Shepherd sought,
And back to the flock and back to the fold,
“Twas a sheep that the Good Shepherd brought.
Now, why should the sheep be so carefully fed
And cared for still today?
Because there is danger if they go wrong
They will lead the lambs astray.
For the lambs will follow the sheep, you know,
Wherever they wander, wherever they go.
If the sheep go wrong, it will not be long
Till the lambs are as wrong as they.
So, still with the sheep we must earnestly plead,
For the sake of the lambs today, If the lambs are lost, what a terrible cost
Some sheep will have to pay.
Decisions, Decisions, Decisions
Have you ever had trouble deciding between right and wrong? What does the Bible teach us about resisting Satan’s temptations and solving the difficult dilemmas we sometimes face in living the Christian life?
It seems that some folks have the mistaken idea that Christianity is a comprehensive list of do’s and don’ts. According to their way of thinking, if the Bible does not specifically condemn some activity, then it is perfectly acceptable for them to engage in it. When confronted about their participation in questionable activities, their response is often, “show me where the Bible says this is wrong.” It is sad how some brethren have allowed Satan to deceive them in this regard, for Christianity is not a comprehensive list of right and wrong, but rather a set of principles to help the Christian determine the right course of action in every circumstance of life.
In trying to decide between right and wrong, each one of us should ask ourselves, “What would Jesus do, if He were in my shoes? How would He act or dress for this occasion? Would He even do this thing or go to this place?” Of course we should never do anything specifically condemned in the Scriptures, but the negative teaching of the Bible is not the only criteria for judgment between good and evil. There is much positive teaching to consider, and the only safe ground is to make sure we have New Testament authority for everything we say and do (Col. 3:17).
When in doubt about some activity, ask yourself the following questions, and let the wisdom of God’s Word, help you to determine what course of action to follow.
Will it cause me to be regarded as “worldly”? (Rms. 12:2)
Is this practice offensive to my conscience? (Rms. 14:23)
Will this be a bad influence on others? (Mt. 18:6-10)
Is it destructive to my temple of the Spirit? (I Cor. 6:15-20)
Does it bring me under the weakening influence of evil companions? (I Cor. 15:33, I Thess. 5:22)
Is it true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praiseworthy? (Phil. 4:8)
Will this action bring glory and honor to God? (I Cor. 6:20)
Are you willing to put your thoughts, speech, and conduct to these tests? If so, God will help you to choose the right way as you live for Jesus!
